Join me for a Reiki Level 2 Workshop
I was first introduced to hands-on energy healing in my early twenties, while I was with a crop circle tour group in England. One of the group members was an energy healer from France. At the time, being completely ignorant to the energy available in my life, I looked at him with polite scepticism and brushed it off as "different strokes for different folks".
Several years later my mom had a massive heart attack. During her hospital stay, she was introduced to a Reiki practitioner, who was doing volunteer work there. She was able to alleviate her discomfort, and that was astonishing to both my mom and me. My mom has a strong background in Western medicine and put all her faith into that system at the time. She was extremely suspicious and sceptic towards anything else, especially the "hokey-sounding energy stuff". After her experience with Reiki, she signed up for a class to learn Level 1! And I thought to myself that if my mom believed in it, there had to be something to it.
I received my level one training in the winter of 2009. I had no idea about the impact this course would have on my life and future medical practice. It was given to me as a Christmas gift and I was more than happy to go check it out. I remember really enjoying the weekend, but couldn't wrap my academic brain around how something so profound could be so simple to tap into and use. I went home after the last day of the workshop thinking that I had had a fun weekend and met some great people - but I had no idea of the degree of change that had occurred within me.
The first treatment I gave was to my cat. I didn't want to try Reiki on any of my family and friends because I was afraid that they would judge me for being "hokey". When my cat jumped on my lap I laid my hands on his back. He immediately whipped his head around and gave a large hiss followed by promptly jumping off my lap in a frenzy. He definitely wasn't expecting this new found energy and I couldn't deny that it existed.
I learnt two things from this experience:
1) If I want to be able to help myself and others with Reiki, I need to check my ego at the door. The only thing stopping me from using Reiki is me, not what others think. Opinions can always change through experience.
2) Always get consent before doing Reiki, especially from a cat.
I completed the second level of the Usui system of Reiki after one year of practicing what I learned from level one. The benefit it has brought to both my personal life and my clinical practice has been immense and immeasurable in value.
At the second level, you will learn how to use three symbols to aid your treatments. These are for increasing power output, treating the mental/emotional aspects of imbalance, and for treating people at a distance anywhere in the world. The emphasis to achieve level two is placed on the desire to help others, not just yourself, in your practice.
I have used Reiki everyday now for 9 years and have reached Level 2 with my training in the Usui System. Shelley Easthope has been my mentor from the beginning, and I continue to work with her as I strive to achieve Master Level. I hope you join me and Shelley for the Level 2 Workshop May 18th-20th, 2018, at Lavender House Acupuncture & Wellness Clinic.
